Violin shopping at THE CHIMNEYS VIOLIN SHOP in East Central Pennsylvania is like taking a trip back into the 18th Century. Here at the Chimneys there is no division of labor; each stringed instrument we make is handcrafted by one person, without the use of modern machine tools. They are hand carved using knives, gouges, or chisels, the same materials available to the 18th Century Masters of Cremona, Italy. Edward C. Campbell is the Master Violin Maker at the Chimneys and has earned 3 Gold Medals, 11 Certificates of Merit, and 16 Grand Prizes in International competitions for making violins, violas, and celli. We have a full-time apprenticeship program, annual seminars, and special workshops. The Chimneys carries a fine selection of instruments, their bows and accessories. We also make artistic repairs and restorations on violins, violas, celli, and their bows. The price range on the instruments and bows run from modest for
beginners to the best for the professional. All of these are handmade and
the selection is taken from "Violin Makers" all over the world. Many of
the instruments for sale are made here at The Chimneys. Selection of used
instruments varies from day-to-day. Here are a couple of samples form our
professional inventory:
Used; Violin Bow; Silvestre et Maucotel; French; 1900; Good
Condition Full Sized Bow. This bow is a classic French design with an
octagonal stick made from dark red pernambuco with a silver mounted
ebony frog with a parisian eye. The button is mounted with a solid
